What is Digital CitizenshipDigital Citizenship is a relatively new phrase which was invented to better describe the rights and responsibilities due to a person’s online persona. It also speaks to how we should treat each other in an increasing technological environment. To be a good digital citizen one must learn how to be safe, responsible, and respectful to other digital citizens. Interestingly enough, many of the key components of what makes a good digital citizen are also what makes a good citizen in the non-digital world. A good digital citizen understands the technological power inherent in the internet, but is also keenly aware that such power only exists as one spoke in a many tiered wheel. Digital citizens have a right to share information, but they also have a responsibility to respect the viewpoints of others and be aware of the effects of poor digital citizenship.
